A FISHING TRIP

BY

Two little children
full of glee
have each caught a fish
on their tiny poles
sitting at the end of the dock
won't their moms and dads
be proud
they think
and pull them up feeling big and stout
one for sister and one for me
let's put them in our bucket
and now let's cover them with
fresh water
that's what Dad has taught us
their feet pat on the wooden boards
as they skip merrily home
and Mom can cook them up for dinner
let's show her what we've done
and after they've gone
the water still splashes up against the dock
and waits for them to come again,
on its planks to walk.
